Dwayne Johnson Might Run for President in 2020

He’s a former WWE champ, then the highest-paid movie star in the world, and he might become the president. Well, anything can happen since Donald Trump was elected.

Aold Schwarzenegger managed to make the surreal leap between bodybuilding, Hollywood stardom and politics in the Nineties and Noughties, and it looks like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson could be on a similar trajectory. The WWE superstar-tued-movie star told Vanity Fair’s Paul Chi on Sunday that he’s considering running for U.S. President in 2020. He said Donald Trump’s improbable election win over Hillary Clinton last week demonstrated that anything is possible in American politics.

“I wouldn’t rule it out,” Johnson said, albeit with a big smile. “It would be a great opportunity to help people, so it’s possible. This past election shows that anything can happen.”

Johnson also told Reuters: "I love my country, I’m extremely patriotic and I also feel, especially now, leadership is so important, great leadership is so important, respected leadership is so important. If I felt like I could be an effective leader for us, and surround myself with really high-quality leaders, then sure, I would."

And with People, he claimed:

“I used to say it jokingly but every time I was asked, it was with a real genuine interest. And it was very eaest.” He told People.

“And so I started to really think. Could I make a difference? Could I surround myself with really brilliant people to help me make decisions? Do I care about this country? And when the answers continued to come up yes, then I thought, there’s a good chance. Yeah, one day. Then we’ll do another interview like this.”

The actor is no stranger to politics. He spoke at the 2000 Republican National Convention to encourage young people to vote regardless of party affiliation and has recently commented on social media about the idea of running for public office. In March, he tweeted that “maybe one day” he would consider campaigning for the White House, and last June he wrote on Instagram: “The idea of one day becoming President to create real positive impact and global change is very alluring.”

Obviously, so much will change from now until 2020, but that doesn’t mean we can’t dream of a Kanye, The Rock and Chris Rock debate during the Democratic primary.
